I was aware of the existence of Tim Minchin, a musician who could be making nothing but finely crafted terribly earnest heartfelt ballads, but who is unable to resist the urge to just crack a few jokes.
I was unaware, however, of his unfashionable belief in the existence of empirical reality.
This one's audio-only:
And man, have I ever been there.
Ideally, you've got someone like Tim on hand so you can tag him in when you need to go out for a little walk after being told about the Muslim Mafia that's breaking like a swarthy tsunami over the civilised world, or whatever.
If your tag-team comrade can bust mad rhymes, so much the better.

I saw him on Denton a while ago and it was indescribably wonderful. I wish there were more like him.

I've always wanted to see him live, since I saw his Comedy Gala hit "Fuck the Poor".
I also like his spoken word beatnik-ish piece, Mitsubishi Colt.
Both are on YouTube.

Oh my, that was so brilliant. Thank you so much for sharing that. As an American and a sort of asocial prick there's so little chance I would have discovered this guy without this post.

If you also happen to be a fan of the ABC's Spicks and Specks, there's a very good chance you'll enjoy this one:

This is totally brilliant. I had never heard of this guy before, but I just spent a few hours watching youtube videos of him. "Storm" is my new skeptic's anthem.
Too bad he's got no upcoming gigs in the US :/

Thank You!

So now we know what you'd get if Bill Bailey and Derren Brown had an Australian baby.

What impresses me most about Tim Minchin is his ability to slip in a barbed lyric and make it sound as though he's paying you a compliment. On top of that, he's a really fine musician, too.

Excellent! I think I've seen him before, but I'd no idea he'd done anything like this.
Reminds me a bit of the old Flanders & Swann song, Horoscope. Can't find it online, but the lyric went:
Jupiter's passed through Orion, and come into conjunction with Mars.
Saturn is wheeling through infinite space, to its preordained place in the stars,
And I gaze at the planets in wonder, at the trouble and time they spend.
All to warn me to 'be careful', in 'dealings involving a friend'.
